Freedom and Responsibility
At Fairhaven School, we are founded on the Sudbury Model’s core belief that the inherent right to live life on one's own terms, with freedom and the profound responsibility it entails, is a fundamental human right for people of all ages. The school exists to provide a free and democratic environment where people can assume responsibility for their education and lives.
We value learning as a holistic process that happens naturally through living, playing, exploring, and engaging with the real world. We believe that genuine growth emerges from direct experience, problem-solving, and the unfettered pursuit of one's passions.
Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
The promise of freedom can only be realized when every individual is treated with fundamental equality and feels genuinely included. We are committed to fostering a community where all members are equally safe, valued, and belong, irrespective of their race, religion, sexual orientation, age, sex, gender identity, ethnic or national origin, or disability. We celebrate the richness that a tapestry of diverse backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences brings to our shared learning environment.
Fairness, Integrity, and Respect
Our democratic structure thrives on the active participation and shared responsibility of every community member. In our judicial system, we believe that everyone has the right to due process, and strive for all conflicts to be resolved in good faith with fairness, integrity, and equal consideration for every individual's rights and voice.
