Kitchen Corp Recipes: Apple Pizza

The Kitchen Corporation voted to share some recipes on the school’s blog page over the next few months. Our first recipe, Apple Pizza, submitted by Alexa Moran, got tons of praise when it was made last November at school. Had there been a contest, Apple Pizza would have won best-version-of-the-apple-pie by the Kitchen Corporation. Alexa shared this yummy recipe from her grandmother. It’s a twist on the traditional apple pie recipe, easy to make with a fun name, and something people may want to try over the holidays.

Apple Pizza

Equipment needed:

1 large pizza pan

Aluminum foil

Rolling pin

Pastry blender (or 2 knives)

6-8 tart apples

1 cup sugar

1 ½  tsp cinnamon

¼ tsp nutmeg

2 cups flour

1 cup butter

½ tsp salt

5-6 Tbsp very cold water

Four basic steps, approximately 1 hour total for prep and baking: make the pizza pie crust, the filling, the topping, then bake.

  • Basic Pizza Pie Single Crust

Toss with fork the 1 ½ cups of sifted flour, ½ tsp salt, ½ cup butter (cut into pieces) and the 5-6 Tbsp very cold water until dough is formed. Do not overwork it. Gently roll out dough onto a lightly-floured surface. Cover pizza pie pan with foil and place crust on aluminum foil on pizza pan.

  • Filling

Peel and core the apples, then slice into thin sections. Place the sections in a pinwheel pattern, at least two circles worth on the pie crust in the pizza pan.

  • Crumb Mix Topping

Mix ½ cup sugar, 1 ½ tsp cinnamon and ¼ tsp nutmeg. Sprinkle cinnamon mixture over the apples on the pizza pan.

Then use the pastry blender or two knives to cut the ¾ c flour, ½ c sugar and ½ c butter until it forms a fine crumb mix. Sprinkle the fine crumb mix on top of the apples and cinnamon.

  1. Bake at 425-450 degrees, depending on your oven, for 20-25 minutes.

Cool a little to warm or room temperature and serve!
